Historical narrative is a form of story that is based on a historical event but with semi-fictional plot and characters. The goal of this course is to help students exercise their English reading and writing through learning about historical events and narratives. The course will focus on two events that are abundant in narratives—the Holocaust and Slavery in America. Through reading narratives of these brutal yet world-changing periods of history, students will explore the consequences of prejudice while exercising their language fluency and critical thinking skills via written responses, group discussions and presentations. These assignments will train students to express their understanding and opinions in English.
