課程介紹     Introduction
流行文化與英文希望能讓學生在學習流行文化的同時能夠跟語言學習做結合。課程將會訓練同學使用英文來學習美國文化的主題。因此,這堂課不只是學英文,還要引導學生觀察及思考流行文化背後的意義。口語英文譬如說像俚語、片語、比喻以及諷刺等將會在課堂中被討論、分析。課程指導將會引導學生表達自己的分析,也會訓練同學運用批判思考在課堂演說及寫作中。課程將會幫助學生習得更多對於北美流行文化的知識並運用他們英文的能力。

《 課程介紹 -- English 》
Learning English Through Popular Culture aims to combine students’ language learning experience with the exposure of American popular culture. Throughout the course, students will develop media literacy skills and examine the values and messages disguised in popular culture. Students will practice critical thinking skills via written responses, group discussions, and presentations. They will also exercise their language fluency by expressing their understanding and opinions in English.

《 上課要求 》
Note to Students
1. Attending class is your job as a student.
2. Do not to sleep, play with your phone, or do your own thing during class time. Playing with your cell phone, sleeping or doing unrelated work is a sign of disrespect to this class. Students who fail to cooperate will result in a zero in student’s participation grade.
3. When absent, student is responsible for any missed assignment and announcement.
For every absence, there will be 1% penalty from the attendance grade.
4. Being late for more than 30 minutes is considered absent. Repeated tardiness will result in participation grade penalty.
5. If you are absent on the day of an assignment due date, you may hand it in next class. However, there will be a 10% penalty for lateness.
6. If you are absent or late on the presentation day, there will be a 10% penalty.

《 報告要求 》
Presentation Expectation
1. Never ever use your phone as your script. Use paper!
2. Do NOT read word-for-word. Maintain eye contact. Explain! Not read!
3. Make sure your pronunciations are correct
4. Practice for fluency. 不要期待不練習就會順。練習不是念一遍就算了,應該要站著,隨著PPT演練一次。
5. Make sure you have a good opening and conclusion. Remember to introduce yourself.

《 討論要求 》
Student are expected to participate in all discussions and class activities. Failure to do so will result in a 0 for participation grade.

《 其他要求 》
Academic Honesty and Integrity
Anything that you can find, I can also find. Assignment, presentation or any project that is plagiarized from any sources, to any extent, will result in a zero for the presentation. Work that is plagiarized from a non-English source and translated via Google translate or any translation application is equally unacceptable. Blatantly quoting entire paragraph from any source, or simply changing a few words is shoddy academic behavior.
Students who fail to comply with academic honesty and integrity will receive failing grades. No second chances will be given.

學術誠信與倫理
任何你找得到的資料,我都找得到。剽竊而來的作業、報告或作品,不管長度,都會造成零分。演講內容若是從其他語言的來源由Google或任何翻譯軟體翻譯為英文的,同樣不會被接受。毫不忌諱地引言一整段或只修改少數字是差勁的學術行為。這也會導致不及格的成績。無法遵守學術誠信與倫理的同學,將會收到不及格的成績。同學不會有第二次完成的機會。希望同學要有學術常識。
